The responsables of these three UN agency, Gilbert Houngbo (IFAD), Jose Graziano da Silva (FAO) and David Beasley (WFP) paid a visit to see the sustainability of the actions taken there to fight food and nutrition insecurity.
"We have seen the field of defined communities. That's what gives us hope that the agenda to 2030 is playable." Wrote Gilbert Houngbo on his twitter account at the end of the visit of a few days in Niger.
The joint mission met president Mahamadou Issoufou and hosted a press briefing in the presence of the head of Government, Brigi Rafini.
Mr. Rafini expressed the interest of his Government in this joint mission which is part of the goal zero hunger to keep people safe food insecurity.
The delegation visited several provinces including Maradi to inspect the resilience of the population that is rural and especially noted how the 3N program of the Government, "Nigerians feed the Nigerians" is a reality.
"We want to see the sustainability of the actions that we take in Niger, measure the impact on the beneficiaries, and ensure that communities can take over," praised Mr. Houngbo.
Niger is one of the countries of the sahel affected by a food crisis. The urgent action of the UN and ECOWAS to set people free from hunger.
